NaPoWriMo 2015 – No 30 – End Credits

Do you remember

after the disco –

the sandpaper kisses?

You left your guard down

allowed yourself

to wish impossible things.

And I….

I fell in love with a dead boy.

For a while afterwards

I lived on the moon,

I changed my name –

faced reality without you.

But now…

every time the sun comes up,

I dream of us

and remember

everything I didn't say.

NaPoWriMo 2015 – No 29 – A Day In the Life

Started well
Could be better
Found a hole in my best sweater
Made some juice
Brushed my hair
Left for work – seconds to spare.
Got to work
Took a class
Many students to harass.
Homework late
Got no pen –
Keeping calm I count to ten.
Lunchtime break
Food and chat
Wish we had a library cat.
Home time now
Cup of tea
Have a biscuit – maybe three!
Take a bath
Drink some wine
Weekend mood and feeling fine.

NaPoWriMo 2015 – No 28 – Gephyrophilia

Tension, compression, bending and torsion,

Triangular structures set portion by portion

Leading to what, leading to where?

Leading away from or heading somewhere.

Over the water and over the road

Bypassing the nondescript, easing the load.

Cantilever, suspension, arch, beam or truss

You take us to places without any fuss

Abutments and anchor bolts – bearing assemblies

Rolled beams and safety rails and itineraries.

Some of them flat and some on a slope

Crossing them safely or walking a rope.

NaPoWriMo 2015 – No 26 – Cry Wolf, Cry!

Oh no Officer!
She knew alright.
Knew exactly what
she was getting into.
Yes, I know I have previous.
The swine framed me.
Promising a roof over my head.
Liars, thieves and cheats!
My mother helped to
found an empire, you know!
She was a woman
Of high integrity and spirit.
Not like Red.
That fateful day
I saw her there
All red rouged lips
Scarlet red hair.
She tempted me off the path
Fed me with her dainty fingers.
Tempted me and offered more
Oh so much more….
Yes yes! I admit it
I followed her
Down the red path
Into the woods.
Glancing back over her shoulder
A smile playing on those lips
She knew alright.
She had me at “Hello”.
In through the open door…
She dressed me
in Granny's lingerie.
Told me how big I was…
Like a fool I played along
What sane guy could resist?
I howled, howled, howled
as she cried “Wolf!”
He came home early
Flew into a rage
And officer, that's when
I saw the axe…

NaPoWriMo 2015 – No 24 – Ifs and Buts

If you can find your keys when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you.
If you can memorise a hefty shopping list
And remember to collect the laundry too.
If you can stand the lines at endless football games
Drink cold Bovril, eat all the manky pies,
And suffer all the shouting at the ref
Remembering to celebrate the highs.
If you can juggle all the school runs
And sit through countless netball games.
If you can have both son and daughter
And treat those two rascals just the same.
If you can hear the threats you’ve issued
Twisted round to break the rules
And ground them still for being rude
And taking you for fools.
If you can take a heap of earnings
And throw it all on toys and clothes
And food, and nights out at the movies
With unsuitable friends you loathe.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To clean their bedrooms long after they are gone
And work until there is nothing in you
And dust bunnies there are none.
If you can keep your wits about you
As university halls they roam
And keep a hat on worrying
When they never write or phone.
If you can give all that you have to give
To watch them blossom, grow and run,
Yours is the best job in the world
And which is more you’ll be a Dad my son!
